Artificial intelligence has been one of the most talked about topics on social media these days, with GPT Chat being one of the most talked about products. But how can this technology help the work of a Product Owner? This is the question many people have been asking.

To answer this question, we used Chat itself to gain insights into how it can be used in the role. The result was surprising, as the tool can support the Product Owner in a number of ways, offering support for tasks and responsibilities associated with the role.

In this article, we'll present eight ways in which GPT Chat can be used to help the Product Owner in their role.

1. Definition of requirements

Defining requirements is one of the fundamental activities in product management. In this context, GPT Chat can be a valuable tool to help the Product Owner. It can help with creating user stories and defining acceptance criteria, as well as communicating with stakeholders and the development team.

To illustrate this possibility, we used GPT Chat itself and asked it to create a user story for paying for an e-commerce purchase using a credit card and adding the acceptance criteria needed to validate the card details. To our surprise, GPT Chat responded promptly with a well-described user story and detailed acceptance criteria.

Among the acceptance criteria presented, we highlight the validation of the credit card number entered by the user, checking that it is valid and has the correct number of digits, as well as checking the expiry date and the security code (CVV).

This demonstration shows that GPT Chat can be a useful tool to help the Product Owner define requirements in an agile and precise way. With this, it is possible to optimize time and increase efficiency in product management, providing a more satisfactory experience for users and adding value to the business.

2. Backlog prioritization

Prioritizing the backlog is one of the most challenging tasks for the Product Owner, as it requires a careful analysis of the requirements and a balance between the demands of the stakeholders and the development team. It is in this context that Chat GPT can be a great ally in decision-making.

Based on factors such as business value, risks and effort dependencies, the tool can help prioritize backlog items more efficiently. To illustrate this in practice, we ran a test with the tool, providing it with a shuffled backlog outline and asking it to prioritize the items taking into account the buying journey.

And the result was surprising! Based on the user's journey, the artificial intelligence prioritized the following: e-commerce home page, product search by category, selection of items in the shopping cart, closing the shopping cart, payment method data, delivery location data, sending the purchase confirmation email and, finally, sorting the product search.

Chat GPT justified its choice by stating that although product search ordering is useful for users, it is less critical in the purchasing journey than the other functionalities. With this, it is clear that it can be a powerful tool to help the Product Owner prioritize the backlog, bringing more objectivity and assertiveness to the product development process.

3. Planning sprints

GPT Chat can be a tool to support the Product Owner in planning Sprints, but it's important to remember that its suggestion for distributing tasks among team members may not be the best option. Artificial intelligence is based on information provided by human beings, and there may be inaccuracies or inadequacies in the input used to train it. It is therefore essential to use your critical sense to evaluate the suggestions made.

Although it can be useful for defining sprint goals and objectives, it's important to stress that the distribution of tasks is the responsibility of the team and not the Product Owner. Team self-organization is one of the fundamental principles of Agile and must be preserved. Therefore, it is advisable to discard suggestions that could jeopardize the team's autonomy, critically evaluate what has been offered and use this data with caution

4. Stakeholder management

GPT Chat can also be a useful tool for the Product Owner in stakeholder management, providing tips and advice on how to manage expectations, communicate effectively and resolve conflicts.

Despite being a basic tool, it can be effective in offering information management suggestions and management advice. To illustrate, an example would be a simple instruction given to Chat GPT to provide tips and advice on how to manage expectations, communicate effectively and resolve conflicts between stakeholders. Through this, he was able to provide valuable and useful information on a variety of stakeholder management topics

5. Analysis of metrics and KPIs

In analyzing project metrics and KPIs, GPT Chat can help identify relevant metrics and teams to track project progress and success, as well as providing insights to improve team performance.

During a test with the tool, it was possible to generate fictitious data and metrics for an e-commerce store called Fashion X. The artificial intelligence created several examples of very interesting metrics, which already demonstrates the value of the tool. However, it is important to note that for a more critical and in-depth analysis of the data, it is necessary to provide context and more detailed information. In practice, the data used in the project will be specific and it is important to understand the metrics more broadly.

Chat GPT can make optimization suggestions based on the metrics presented, but it's important to note that these suggestions are generic and depend on the context of the project. It is up to the Product Owner to carefully analyze these suggestions and assess whether they are applicable to their context.

Some of the suggestions offered include: increasing the conversion rate, reducing costs, reducing the return rate and increasing engagement on social networks. It is important to analyze these suggestions carefully and carry out a more in-depth analysis to understand whether they are really applicable to the context of the project.

6. Conducting meetings

As well as helping to prepare agendas, artificial intelligence can also summarize meetings automatically. However, it is possible to go further and exploit GPT Chat's ability to suggest agendas.

In testing this skill, we were successful in obtaining a good agenda proposal. Chat suggested a well-structured agenda, which included reviewing what had been done in the Sprint, with the participation of the developers, and holding the Sprint retrospective, although there was a little confusion in the placement of this activity.

Overall, the dynamics presented by Intelligence were very interesting and can be a good help in preparing efficient meetings. It is important to remember, however, that it is always necessary to evaluate and adapt their suggestions according to the context of the team and the project in question.

7. Research and Validation

By inserting a specific context, such as the creation of an investment management app for a stock brokerage firm, it is possible to obtain valuable information on best market practices, trends and emerging technologies. During the exercise, Chat GPT offered suggestions such as intuitive and easy-to-use design, customization of the app according to the investor's profile, automation, security and gamification.

The chat also highlighted the importance of financial education, suggesting that the concept be integrated into the platform. The suggestions offered can help create a backlog with ideas for future trends. By taking the specific context into account, the Product Owner can make more informed decisions and create a more attractive product for their customers.

8. Continuous improvement

With the ability to identify areas for improvement, the tool can provide suggestions for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the product. In addition, you can use it to carry out benchmarking comparisons between your product and competitors, which can help you better understand your market and identify strengths and weaknesses.

For example, if you have a visible product on the market, you can ask Chat GPT to compare your product with the leader in your segment and highlight relevant features of the competitor. Although the answers may be a little generic, they still provide enough background to guide the Product Owner's analysis.

Conclusion

In short, it is not yet possible to completely replace the role of the Product Owner or other knowledge professionals with artificial intelligence. Although AI can enhance and assist in some tasks, it does not yet have the ability to understand the context and nuances of business, market and user needs, as well as communication and negotiation skills.

Therefore, those who should be worried about losing jobs to AI are those whose work is just a variation or combination of what others have already created before them.

AI's contribution is to enhance and catalyze the delivery of value, evolving the role of market professionals and their careers.
